                       Coconut Point

Coconut Point was acquired in partnership with the State of Florida and consists of 62 acres of coastal scrub and lagoon plants.  The soils on the eastern end of the property formed very recently and still contain many fragments of shells. This affects soil pH, keeping it slightly alkaline.  As you walk to the west the soils become more leached, finally becoming acidic. This gradient in soil pH is reflected in the plants you will see along the trails.  Read more about the site here:

Coconut Point is also home to scrub jays like the one seen below.
