Fiddlewood is a tropical plant not found much farther north than central Brevard. Its wood is prized for cabinetry and musical instruments and its fragrant white flowers are used by many insects.
White Stopper is another tropical plant. There are several stories as to how it got its name. Its dense growth can “stop” passage through a forest. Its fruits are high in tannin and a tea made from them can “stop” diarrhea.
Wild Coffee is also found at Coconut Point. Its Generic name, Psychotria, comes from the Greek meaning roughly “medicine of the soul”.
This tropical plant is known as Tallow Wood or Hog Plum. Its flowers are fragrant and attract many insects. Oils from the plant are used as insecticides.
